All It’s Cracked Up to Be

“Your hair! Your beautiful hair…your one beauty!” – Little Women, Louisa May Alcott

I always think and tell myself that I’ve never really had long hair. I usually have myself convinced. However, I have had long hair.

“Long” hair back in 2005

It’s never what I’d consider long. Long ago, someone told me that long hair wen below your bra strap. I have always measured my length definition by that. So I usually have myself convinced my hair insnt that long.

I can confidently say this was the only other time I have had LONG hair (2004)

Now, it is true to say I don’t usually have long hair. I would say in general I have mid-length/shoulder length hair. In fact, as far back as I can remember or see pictures, my hair was shoulder length. This is of course blacking out the time my mom and the hair dresser decided to give me a mullet and the perm that ended up like Michael Jackson.

Is it any wonder I don’t get my haircut very often either (ok, still don’t!).

This is a more recent example why:

I asked her to cut it so it was shoulder-length when curly…

Luckily, I was able to recover from this traumatic experience and my hair was nice and long for my wedding last September.

oh my stars

Here’s the thing though…long hair isn’t all its cracked up to be.

It’s annoying.

It gets stuck everywhere…like EVERYWHERE!

I was so sick of it!

When I decided to get my big cut last month, I opted out of using my coupon for Hair Masters and decided to return to the genius that did my hair above. Before she styled it on my wedding day, she’d cut and colored it a few weeks before that.

I can’t believe I thought it was long at that time! Only one small trim between the picture above and this!

Almost 10" gone!

Almost 10″ gone!

My gal did a great job sticking with my guidelines (same as before, shoulder-length when styled curly) and was responsive when I stated I’d rather come back for her to trim some more rather than leave disappointed.

Not too bad

Not too bad

I am enjoying all the freedom!
